TRIP OVERVIEW

The Vientiane and Buddha Park tour is an ideal short itinerary for those who are passing through Vientiane and only have a few days to spare. It can also be considered as an initial part of the Laos trip and combined with other customised itineraries.

In addition to the main sights in the capital, such as the monuments Wat Sisaket, Wat Ho Prakeo, That Luang Stupa and Patuxai, it includes a tour of Wat Xieng Khouan, also known as Buddha Park, the artistic creation that combines Buddhist and Hindu iconographies through numerous religious sculptures.

To enrich the travel experience, the itinerary also includes an excursion to ‘Nam Ngum Lake‘, the large artificial water reservoir created by the dam on the Nam Ngum River, allowing us to visit local villages and observe the daily lifestyle.

This sample itinerary starts and ends in Vientiane. It can be customised to suit your travel needs and combined with other routes in Laos or in other countries.

We continue to Wat Ho Prakeo, built in 1865 to house the famous Emerald Buddha, and to That Luang Stupa, considered the most important monument in Laos. The latter, according to local belief, houses a relic of the Buddha brought over in the 3rd century BC.

We conclude our visits to Vientiane at the Patuxai, or ‘Laotian Gate of Triumph‘ the monument dedicated to the fallen of all wars.

02. BUDDHA PARK - NAM NGUM LAKE

Buddha Park Vientiane - Laos - In Asia TravelBuddha Park Vientiane

After breakfast transfer to Wat Xieng Khouan, also known as ‘Buddha Park‘. In 1958 the Buddhist-Hinduist cleric Boun Léua created numerous sculptures inspired by the Buddhist and Hindu religions, with the aim of ‘uniting’ the two beliefs through a work of art.

The 40-metre-long statue of the reclining Buddha and the large hollow sculpture in the shape of a head, which provides access to an upper level with a beautiful view of the park, symbolising the passage from hell to heaven, are particularly noteworthy.

In the afternoon we continue to ‘Nam Ngum Lake‘, the large artificial water reservoir created by the dam on the Nam Ngum River.

Crossing the river, we reach Ban Huai Ngai village where we observe the different local lifestyle. Afterwards we stop at Ban Keun village known for its large salt extraction plant.

Once at the lake we board a long-tail boat for the excursion to the fishing villages, on the islets of the river.

Afterwards we return to Vientiane.

Included : Hotel, breakfast, tour guide, boat, tickets and private transportation

03. VIENTIANE - DEPARTURE

In the morning we visit the ‘Morning Market‘ and the Ban Nong Bouathong village.

Afterwards, transfer to the airport in time for your departure flight.

Included : Breakfast, tour guide and private transportation
