TONLE SAP LAKE
AND BEANG MELEA TEMPLE
Discover Kompong Kleang floating village on Tonle Sap Lake, undoubtedly an important experience to know about Cambodian cultural roots.
As one of the world’s most varied and productive ecosystems in the region Tonle Sap lake has always been of central importance for Cambodian’s food supply and during the Khmer Empire, the largest pre-industrial settlement complex in world history.
The village is inhabited by thousands of people who live on stilts and houseboats.
Visit Beang Melea temple, completely immersed in the forest, which gives the emotions experienced by the explorers who first ventured into these lands.

01. KOMPONG KLEANG AND BEANG MELEA
Boat house at Kompong Kleang floating village
In the morning we drive east to Dom Dek village. If time allows stop for a short visit at the colourful Dom Dek market. We leave the main road and continue south towards a surreal atmosphere of the village on stilts of Kompong Kleang: a long dirt path lined with houses built on stilts that exceed 10 m in height to survive the flooding during the rainy season.
Observe the daily life of the villagers dedicated to fishing-related activities which, as stuck in time, have presumably been carried out in the same way for centuries. Later we embark on a private wooden boat for the trip on the canal that flows into the Tonle Sap lake.
Continuing further we reach the floating village : a real community that lives and works on the water. In addition to private homes there are schools, shops, workshops and floating restaurants.
In the afternoon we continue to Beang Melea temple, one of the last Hindu temples built before the introduction of the Buddhist religion. The visit is one of the most fascinating since to date the temple has not undergone restoration and is completely surrounded by the forest.
Drop off at your hotel (or airport transfer).
